The 60th VPA Show, Fête and Auction
The Village Produce Association began in 1943, when the country was "Digging for Victory". Reorganised soon after World War II ended, it has kept going ever since. Each year the show is held in Geldeston Memorial Hall. Most exhibits are left to be auctioned and the proceeds are given to local charities, e.g. the James Paget oncology unit.
There are no big money prizes but great enjoyment - in producing, judging and sampling the best locally-grown vegetables and fruit or home-made bread, cake and jams; or in admiring the flowers and the work by local craftspeople, especially the children's entries. Mainly a Geldeston event (138 attended last year), we now invite all five Waveney Group parishes to join in.
The New Albert Warner Cup
In April a cup "for the best new entrant" was added to the existing awards. It is named in honour of Mr Albert Warner who, for over thirty years, has been chairman of the VPA and an outstanding annual participant in the show. On his retirement the committee decided that no better way could be chosen to mark his exceptional contribution. We welcome more helpers.
We'd like some new faces on our committee, which meets 4-5 times a year. Contact the acting chairman John Crowfoot (01502-717754) or the secretary Veronica Sweetman for more details.
